Berry Bowl Class, July 18th At 6pm
It’s summer time and the berries will be coming in soon. So come make your own berry bowl.
Description
You’ll turn a flat slab of clay into something you’ll actually use during this season of the berry. Tried it. Loved it. Ready for more? You’re not alone. Many of our students start with a one-time class before joining a 7-week series. As a thank you for taking the first step, participants in our one-time classes receive 10% off their next 7-week throwing or slab course. In this one-time workshop, you’ll make a ceramic berry bowl, something that lives in the in-between moments. You'll rinse your berries, then add them to your yogurt. After, you'll set it on the counter, leave it there, and come back to it tomorrow and use it again. With the guidance of Lindsay Thompson, you'll roll out a slab and press it into one of our berrybowl templates to create the foot and the base of your bowl. You'll then cut out a slab where you'll add your own unique texture using our texture tools. Finally, you'll attach this slab to the edge and create the walls of your berry bowl. Building with slab clay is somewhat challenging, but very beginner-friendly. Shape your bowl; it can either be clean and tight or a little loose and wild. Finally, you create drainage holes to allow water to drain. Refine it and then stand back and say, “I made this.” At Shape Theory, we're always becoming. What’s Included: Clay, tools, and materials Guidance (as much or as little as you need) Firing + glaze We’ll finish your piece in a food-safe glaze. You just have to show up, get dirty, and maybe laugh a little. Details: July 18th at 6 PM Time: ~2–2.5 hours Level: No experience needed Ages: 14+ After, we'll dry it slow, then we’ll bisque fire it to get it ready for the glaze firing. We'll then fire it again, even hotter. Your bowl will be ready in about 2–3 weeks. The Shape of It. You don’t need another bowl. But someone planted your berries, they tended them, harvested them, and then packed and shipped them, until they found their way to your hands at the local farmers' market. You might as well reach for this bowl, the one you made, to honor that journey.
